Only You Can Prevent Cabin Fever

Travel Tips | Rayme Gorniak | February 18, 2024

With everything happening in the world, it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and anxious. But hey, you might also just be feeling a tad bit bored. I mean, come on, the holidays are over and there’s not much to plan. Except…wait for it…spring is right around the corner! But let’s chat about preventing cabin fever right now.

According to good ol’ Merriam-Webster, cabin fever is when you’re all cooped up and start feeling super irritable and restless. You know, that feeling you get when you’ve been stuck in isolation or a confined space for way too long. Sounds like a real blast, right? Well, believe it or not, a lot of people actually go through it. Symptoms can include being unhappy, restless, and just downright uncomfortable.

But fear not, we’ve got your back. Our cure: take a travel pill to combat these feelings. So, let’s dive in and discover some fun, silly, and maybe even useful ways to keep yourself entertained during these trying times. And remember, you are not alone—we’re all struggling together.

Beat the Boredom Blues with These Quirky Cabin Fever Fixes!

Brighten Your Spirits: Beating Unhappiness

We find that even when we have a trip booked there is a little more pep in our step and smile on our face—amirite! In particular, unhappiness can be solved by heading to the “Happiest Place on Earth”—Disney! Going to either Disney World in Orlando, Florida or Disneyland in Anaheim, California not only scores you a considerable amount of sun and warmer temps, but the thought of snagging a selfie with your favorite character might turn that frown upside down.

Pro tip: Starting February 28, 2024 the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival starts. Let me tell you, the grounds at EPCOT are always stunning, but during this festival, they take it to a whole new level! Everywhere you turn, you’ll be greeted by an explosion of vibrant colors from the blooming flowers. It’s like walking through a dream!

Relax and Recharge: Conquering Restlessness

This sounds like you need some rest and relaxation. Why not think of a spa weekend away to warmer climates? We know that each of the Fagabond cities has great spas but we can’t help to keep our eyes on Las Vegas or Palm Springs since the spa resorts are plentiful. Score a poolside massage in the desert at The Hacienda at Warm Sands in Palm Springs or get lost in any one of the big hotels’ massive spas on the Las Vegas Strip, like The Spa at Wynn.

Pro tip: If you can’t make it to Vegas or Palm Springs we know that sometimes even booking a stay-cation might be fun, just make sure that you score some great spa treatments and choose a hotel that offers all the amenities you need to not walk outside.

Find Comfort in Escape: Overcoming Discomfort

This term can encompass a lot, but we find that cold air battering our skin is not too comfortable. So, head south to New Orleans where the locals are friendly and the chance of a hurricane only comes in cocktail form this time of year.

Pro tip: Mardi Gras just wrapped up. So, this is the perfect time to see the saintly side of NOLA.

And there you have it, fabulous folks! The roadmap to preventing cabin fever—and let me tell you, it’s not rocket science, but it sure is a journey worth embarking on. So, the next time you feel the walls closing in, remember, you’ve got an arsenal of joy just waiting to be unleashed. Whether it’s jet-setting to a beach where the only ice you’ll encounter is in your margarita, pampering yourself so fiercely at a spa that even your skin starts sending thank you notes, or simply chasing the sun to a place where the only layers you’re piling on are sunscreen, the world is your playground. Stay resilient, stay hopeful, and keep exploring the world around you. You’ve got this!
