Gay Nightlife in San Francisco

Grab a drink and grab a local.

Bloodhound

The perfect combination of interesting bar décor, diverse clientele and strong drinks. Sniff out your prey for the night.

Tonga Room (at The Fairmont Hotel)

Campy, super cheesy, and generally outlandish, Tonga Room and its sweet drinks will cure everything. Forget the hangover coming and join the drunken tourists.

Toad Hall

This club is basically Badlands overflow (same management). There tends to be more room to dance and the back patio lets you cool off or make out as needed.

The Stud

The Stud is full of history, and on occasion full of people. This bar has a way of reinventing itself over and over, so give it a try.

The Mint

Part dive bar, part karaoke lounge, it’s a place you almost have to be drunk to enjoy. More gay-friendly than gay, if you insist on singing, here’s your place.

The EndUp

Open after most places close at 2:00 a.m.; it’s often not where you plan to be, it’s where you end up. You can dance the night away, just note the expensive cover.

The Edge

This small bar has cleaned up (its act), but it is still all about cheap drinks and a heavy cruising scene that skews to the older daddy types.

The Cinch Saloon

A fun, little gay neighborhood bar outside of the gay neighborhoods. The scene can change instantly depending on who drops in that night.

The Café

A mixed crowd heads upstairs to this long-established dance club (check the night first). Large spaces are great for dancing and stalking your prey.

Q Bar

This small place can be empty one night and then a sweaty cauldron of dancing bodies the next. Booty Call Wednesdays are popular for 20-somethings.

And let’s be honest, that’s pretty darn gay.
