Drag shows sashay boldly into the mainstream

Nothing says Christmas like a drag queen show in San Francisco.

There was a time when these were late-night productions, men dressing as women at gay bars, or informal skits at someone’s house. But those days are long, long gone. Want proof? Try to get a ticket for the last three shows of “Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes” at the 500-seat Victoria Theatre.

They’re sold out on Thursday. And Friday. And Saturday. And Sunday. In fact, the entire 12-night production sold out, which explains the line of ticketholders extending down the block and around the corner.
