Historic Pride Parade On A1A Approved by City

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission approved Pride Fort Lauderdale’s proposal to hold a Pride parade on A1A on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m.

The parade is part of an expanded schedule of events during the organization’s 2019 festival, Feb. 21 – 24, and will be the first in history to held on State Route A1A, according to city officials.

“Fort Lauderdale once again rises to the top in recognition of diversity and the important role it plays in enriching the lives of those who live and visit here,” said Mayor Dean Trantalis. “Our city is pleased to host the first ever Pride Parade on Fort Lauderdale beach and we welcome the entire community in helping to make this event a true success.”

The theme for the festival will be “Carnaval” and the parade will be presented in the lively style of Carnaval season celebrations from the Caribbean and Latin America. The parade is planned for 5:30 p.m., allowing floats and vehicles to incorporate lights during the cooler twilight hours of the day. All entries will be encouraged to incorporate the Carnaval theme. Pride Fort Lauderdale will be hosting free workshops to assist entrants with float decorating, costumes and choreography.
