A derelict Salvation Army building is being transformed into The Asbury, the shore town’s first new hotel to open in more than 50 years.
A popular gay vacation spot along the Jersey Shore, Asbury Park has seen an influx of gentrification but there hasn’t been a completely new hotel to open in the seaside town in 50 years. Now, an abandoned former Salvation Army building, located two blocks from the beach, will be rehabed into a hotel known as The Asbury for a planned opening in May 2016. According to a new press release for the real estate developers iStar, “The Asbury mashes up Asbury Park’s Victorian-era history, rock-n-roll present, and shiny future into a new kind of social hub.”
