Your Guide to Pride 2020 and How Coronavirus Will Affect the Celebrations—Plus: Virtual Pride!

For the first time in their 50 year history, Pride events all over the nation—including the infamous New York City celebrations—have been postponed and canceled. The LGBTQIA+ events and parades have been moved due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and the importance of following social distancing recommendations to flatten the pandemic curve.

“As the days have passed, it has become more and more clear that even with a decline in the spread of COVID-19, large-scale events such as ours are unlikely to happen in the near future,” Maryanne Roberto Fine, NYC Pride co-chair, said in a statement (via Deadline). “We understand that we need to re-imagine NYC Pride events—and have already begun to do just that.”

The Big Apple isn’t alone: San Francisco and Los Angeles were each forced to postpone their own Pride celebrations.

That said, if you’re unfamiliar with Pride in general, we’re here to help! Here’s everything you need to know about Pride 2020 and beyond.
