Travel Tips | Jim Werner | June 12, 2024

Summer is almost here, and you know what that means — time to celebrate love, inclusivity, and fabulousness under the sun! Whether you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, these top LGBTQ+ summer events are the perfect opportunity to show your support and have a blast. From parades to beach parties, we’ve got you covered with the top LGBTQ+ summer events. Grab your rainbow flags and let’s get started!

March with Pride at New York City’s Pride Parade

Standing up for who we are is pretty important these days. New York City Pride Parade (June 30) will offer a powerful platform to celebrate and assert your identity with pride and solidarity. And everyone should experience Pride in a very large city at least once — I’m talking an expected crowd of 1+ million people large. Just imagine all the Grindr and Jack’d messages you’ll get.

Beyond the parade, the weekend is packed with cultural events, rooftop parties, and exclusive after-parties. In true NYC fashion, some events offer VIP experiences and unique surprises (tip: check event details for special access and themed parties). This grand celebration culminates in an unforgettable march down Fifth Avenue, uniting millions in the spirit of pride and equality.

Celebrate Diversity at Rehoboth Beach Pride

Rehoboth Beach Pride (July 18–21) is a fabulous seaside celebration where sun, sand, and sea meet under a rainbow flag flying high! Rehomo ditches its chill vibe for a glittering extravaganza, attracting the coolest folks from Philly and New York, along with D.C.’s policy wonks eager to let loose. Get ready for epic parties, jaw-dropping drag shows, and plenty of vitamin D. Plus, with all the tourism from D.C. legislators, diplomats, and government personnel—including some fabulous members of the gay community—you never know who might pop up on Grindr!

Dive into Paradise at Tropical Heat in Key West

The southernmost point of the continental U.S., heats up with art shows, dance parties, boating adventures and trolley tours August 7–11. Tropical Heat, all-male event fills the island with more than just sandy shores and sun-kissed faces proving to be a steamy weekend for all. Some cultural events keep the days going, but, in true Key West fashion, a few events are clothing-optional (tip: make sure you read the fine print before buying tickets.)

Party Hard at Northalsted Market Days in Chicago

The Northalsted Market Days in Chicago, happening from August 10–11, turn Boystown into a buzzing hub of music, art, and community fun. This lively street fest boasts a stellar lineup of live performances, eclectic vendors, and drool-worthy food stalls. The crowd? Vibrant and brimming with energy—seriously, you won’t want to miss it.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! Think dance parties, drag shows, and unique cultural experiences that keep the good vibes rolling all weekend. In classic Market Days flair, expect some flamboyant surprises and must-see acts.

Celebrate Uniqueness at Provincetown Carnival

Provincetown celebrates all things Carnival! August 17–24, PTown is celebrating all things Renaissance X Revolution as 5,000+ visitors will enter this fair. Parades, day markets, and performances will fill the week, including an sunset cruise and drag bingo. While in Cape Cod make sure to rent a bike to cruise Commerical Street (and the boys). And definitely nosh on a lobster roll (you won’t regret it!).

Ignite Your Spirit at Burning Man in Nevada

Looking for one of America’s most unique experiences? Skip the city buzz and head to the Black Rock Desert, about 110 miles north of Reno, Nevada. What looks like a cultural wasteland 50 weeks a year transforms into an artistic mecca from August 25 to September 2. Enter Burning Man, an all-inclusive event celebrating performance and visual arts. Think themed camps and wild mutant vehicles, making it feel more like real-life Mad Max than just the Nevada desert. Pro tip: Besides your tent, pack an open mind – this adventure is going to be unforgettable!
