The Dolphin Tavern
This former go-go bar in South Philly attracts a gay crowd for nightly parties on its neon dance floor, with plenty of mingling at the massive front bar. Drink specials include a rotating selection of drafts, canned beers and specialty cocktails.
Bar X
Dance club in the heart of the gayborhood attracting a decidedly younger crowd than its former occupant, the Venture Inn. Cute bar staff and heavy pours will keep you coming back.
Writer’s Block Rehab
In this dimly lit, comfy hangout with Scrabble-lettered walls and a bound library book for a menu, bartenders serve exquisite, Instagrammable craft cocktails of both the woodsy and floral variety, along with beers and a plentiful selection of wines. Upstairs seating is available for libations-enhanced reading sessions and casual conversation.
Toasted Walnut Bar & Kitchen
Owned and operated by the former manager of Sisters Nightclub, this is a spot for the ladies but honestly, all are welcome. Patrons who swing by on a weeknight might stumble upon any number of drag and variety shows, TV viewing parties or meet-ups.
Ruba Club
Membership-based hangout boasts Ping-Pong, pool & cocktails plus music & art events for the public.
L’Etage
Upstairs from French creperie Beau Monde is a gay-owned, Parisian-inspired nightclub featuring underground drag, burlesque and LGBT performance acts from Philly and New York. Justin Bond and the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret have both graced the stage here. Check their website for weekly events.
Franky Bradley’s
The venue that once housed Philly’s only lesbian bar stays true to its roots with a regular lineup of gay-friendly events in its upper level lounge. Kitschy artwork decorates the downstairs dining room, where patrons can mingle at the bar at happy hour or grab a table for dinner.
Woody’s
Oh Woody’s. Love it or hate it, and sometimes both in one night. But there’s no denying this dance club mainstay. Especially after the renovations.
Voyeur
After hours spots are always sketchy and Voyeur is no exception. If you’re not on something, the thumping house music and high cover charge may be too much for you.
U Bar (Formerly Uncles)
New name and new look. In the past it was the neighborhood dive bar that’s true to its name with its slightly older crowd. Make sure to bring cash and an eager liver. Time will tell what U Bar becomes.
